Since its inception in the early 1980s the driving force for the company has been the ownership of real estate. Although one aspires to be big, it is important to be successful in whatever one does in business. Based on that motivation, the company chose to be in the hospitality industry, which was not only a viable business but involved real estate, which over the years would appreciate and in turn become an instrument for the growth of the company.
The company entered the hotel business in the early 90’s when it was invited to operate and manage a 150-unit hotel in downtown Ottawa. Since then, the focus has been expansion based on the right market mix.
The company has acquired over 22 properties out of which 17 are internationally branded hotels with over 1,000 hotel rooms across Canada and the United States of America.
In the year 2000 the various existing hotel holdings within the company were merged under the Sterling Group Inc. umbrella. Sterling Group now enjoys a corporate identity among some of the leading hospitality brands such as Intercontinental Hotel Group, Choice Hotels International, Wyndham, Best Western and Marriott Hotels as business partners with ongoing businesses.
In the year 2010, the company made its first investment in hospitality in the USA. Over the last seven years Sterling Group has been successful at acquiring four more properties and have followed the same principles for investment that allowed them to grow in Canada. After witnessing first hand the opportunities available in the US, the Group is anxious to continue growing in the USA, while maintaining their core assets in Canada.
At Sterling Group Inc. we believe the success of our company is due to our employees, our suppliers, our bankers and of course our customers.
